Graduating students and other ?job seekers? ? why do they need ?business cards? for?

Their justification for such questions is rooted in their basic assumption that being a “jobless” is temporary situation and soon they are going to work somewhere and only then they’ll have the reason to spend money on it, money which they don’t have now.

So it’s not a simple question of  “yes” or “no” about having business cards but it goes deeper to the hesitations about quantities and content: working persons have job names, titles, ranks, statuses, and so on, they have their firm “Logo”, while “jobless” people have nothing of the kind, so what will they write on their cards?

Because I’m strongly convinced that business cards are needed for everybody in any situation, I’ll tell you the story of teenagers, who are definitely jobless and yet order business cards through printing web sites. They design their cards to carry their picture on it (instead of a “Logo”) and ways to communicate and how to “get in touch”: Mobile phone numbers, E-mails, URLs, “Facebook” and “Blog” details. When they meet other teenagers in their “getting together” sites (Pubs, Malls, and such) they change cards instead of typing so much information to their phones.

Graduating students can mention the following details about themselves:

Discipline and title.

Name of institution they just have graduated.

Ways of contact.

Picture (recommended)

Leave the backside blank for other people to write memos on it. It costs less than a double side designed card and increase the chances of card to be kept by the receiver.

When and where to leave a card behind?

In every job fair you participate. In every job interview you have. When ever you meet someone who is known to have the right connections in the market.  I remember when I was looking for a job and addressed  relatives or friends to help me – they were always asking for a pack of my business cards to be distributed in the right places, just in case.

In other cases of “jobless” people, like those who lost their jobs and are looking now for  new ones, they need business cards the same as students and they can design it the same as students except one thing: some of them, who had high positions, mention it, like: high ranked military or police officers, mayors, judges, parliament members and such.

How many cards to order?

Many printing web sites offer 125 or 250 free business cards except a small shipping fee. It can’t be considered as a financial burden. The small quantity is enough to pass the searching days and those who find a job are happy to throw them away.

People who are in the quest for a job feel bad but it doesn’t mean that their cards show it. So even after being hired – one can still use his cards. They still represent him with dignity and honor.
